{Naturally FLYY} :: Hair It Is, Hair It Is

Before I get into talking about the awesome new hair product I started using this week, I’d like to say HELLO AGAIN! I haven’t had a camera in quite some time so in case you’ve forgotten what I look like, read on, and it’ll jog your memory.

Recently I have been running into moisturizer issues, which for a natural hair gal, can become quite redundant.  I like leave-in conditioner but wanted to use a less watery product. I decided to try Palmer’s Hair Milk because in the past Coconut Shampoo and Conditioners gave my hair much-needed revitalization. Last night I sprayed a little water on my mane, parted my hair into roughly 4 sections and spread the hair milk out by combing it through my hair from root to tip. I felt a difference in texture almost immediately. Completing the look by putting 2-strand flat twists into my hair and wrapping them in a silk scarf.

The next morning my hair was soft to the touch and had a lustrous bounce. I recommend trying Palmer’s Hair Milk if you are experiencing any issues with holding moisture, detangling, and natural curls that don’t look greasy or wet. It gave me a great full look.

INSPIRED :: Chioma Nnadi

Sometimes I’m late on things, most times I’m not but in this case better than never is the theme. Chiona Nnadi, Vogue fashion writer and Fader Style Editor is this INSPIRED post’s woman of note.  This Nigerian beauty astounds me with her style on all points. I love the laid back chic appeal that she crosses with on trend key pieces of the season. Below are some looks that I loved.

Uhh hello! I am a supreme fan of sporting up any style. Whether that be with a cap, a combat boot, or a hoody I’m all for it. I love Chioma’s choices in each of these looks as her layers still always appears polished.

These casual looks are right up my alley — a polka dot or a camo print can get me every time. Though I am apt to lean toward muted colors like black or grey. I have been opening myself up to more color and Nnadi’s example is one I can surely follow.

Chioma showcases that she can pull together a fabulous look while still looking comfortable and event appropriate. I definitely will keep her top of mind for outfit inspirations and all around stylish beauties to watch.

Are you inspired by Chioma?? She’s FLYY!

Second Time Around :: Thrifting Chronicles

My adoration for finding hidden gems has grown a lot over the past 4 years, so much so that I realized at least 80% of my closet was found at consignment shops. For some that may sound a bit farfetched or even hideous but if you don’t love thrifting yet, follow these chronicles and it may have you turning someone’s trash into treasure too.

If you remember here I was on the hunt for new sandals, platforms, and wedges for the spring and summer. The search was subtle, I never go into a second hand store with an exact picture or idea of what I want in mind. Why? Because chances are you might not find it and in the meantime you’ve skimmed over some pretty awesome things.

Exhibit A:

  • Quirky
  • Wooden Platform w/ Faux Snakeskin makeup
  • Peep Toe
  • $30

These gems were an accidental find at Buffalo Exchange in NYC. I was actually looking for a dress to wear to an upcoming banquet and had become overly bored with what I was finding. In line for the fitting room, I spotted them and was so excited when they fit.

Exhibit B:

  • Jeffrey Campbell
  • Über comfy
  • Neutral color
  • $17.95

If you’re like me, when you see J.Campbell Lita’s now you just yawn! I’m convinced everyone has a pair or at least a close knock-off. On a quest to find heels I discovered these Havana’s, they fit like a glove. The only con was one of the straps was broken, but I fixed it and now they’re good as new. LOVE.

So remember, thrifting is what you make it and where you find it. Try new places and don’t be afraid to get something drycleaned before you’re able to wear it or fix a little mishap. Your personal style is what you make it. And mine? Well mine is 100% makeshift, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Accessorize Me

Lizzie-Fortunato-Spring-2012-1

The purpose of accessorizing is bringing life and fun to an otherwise ‘normal’ ensemble. It is what truly separates fashionistas from one another; what can be seen here may be worn different there. Personality dictates how and why you choose … Continue reading

Countdown to Coachella

The best day of April has arrived! (that’s the 11th for those of you who are confused lol) My twenty third birthday, and in honor of the big day I’ve decided to treat myself to a weekend of music, fun, and California. What could be better?

I have a history of being one of thee worst packers ever, so knowing that, I took the liberty of preparing everything 2 days in advance. If I remember anything then I can just add it in. Hopefully this turns out to be as full-proof as I am planning it to be.

the perfect shade of coral pink for my nails

Fresh and Flyy for the plane ride!

Normally I pack like I’m going out-of-town for a month, when I’m really only traveling for a week at most. Bad idea right? I know! Sometimes too many options is worse than having a traveling wardrobe. My solution was to first check the weather and plan outfits accordingly that could most importantly transition from day to night.

  1. A big blanket for daytime festival attendance
  2. 1 pair of fabulous platforms….just in case
  3. rainbows and combat boots
  4. jeans, shorts, and a few tops
  5. a great messenger bag to carry food, camera, and a cool flask in

the perfect combo of night and day transitions

Sure hope I have everything because tomorrow morning, I’m going going, back back to Cali Cali!!! See you soon Westcoast, a girls been missing the pacific!

Mini Fashion Guru Deux

After scouring the J.Crew for kiddie goodies I decided to see what one of my other favorite retailers had to offer. Zara definitely came through with the cuteness!! I am thoroughly excited to beef up Baby D’s closet with these FLYY duds.

How adorable is that Chanel inspired tweed jacket?!? Between that and these metallic broques, I am in baby wardrobe heaven. I believe that as a mother you should put just as much effort into your kids look as you do your own, after all they are a representation of you, right??

Mini Fashion Guru

Lately I’ve been looking for inspiration in many places and I’ve been coming up short. So I decided to take a look at clothes for the mini lady around these parts, and boy oh boy did some keepers pop up!!

Typical places for me to shop for Baby D are Target, H&M, Gap, and TJMaxx but I am in need of some new stops on our ventures.

JCrew – CrewCuts: Preppy clothes for in tiny sizes, I love them!! Below are some of my favorite choices. All of these pieces are soo FLYY and I would love to scoop them up.

No lady can ever have too many pairs of shoes even little ladies. Minnetonka Trampers, Native Slip-Ons, Jack Parcell Metallic Tennies, Glitter Birks?!?! How CUTTTEE! I’m also a sucker for a jacket, it brings an outfit together even a small one.

It looks like I’ll be making a trip to Crewcuts soon to lace Baby D with some dope threads. Where do you shop for the wee ones in your life??

Hunger Games & Fur

The day we were all waiting for finally arrived, Hunger Games opened yesterday and I was at the 1pm showing to see how they interpreted such a great book  onto the big screen. I can say about the movie is that it was an excellent depiction of what I imagined as I read those enthralling books. Suzanne Collins was able to write a world to life so much that when people heard there was a movie coming, we all waited with abated breath to see it. Here’s what I wore to my mid-afternoon movie  double date with my bff and our beaus.

I wanted a little fun and for me that usually means some fur. I love it! As noted here and here. I also just recently bought a purple fur coat and a fur stole. I can’t get enough! Over the past few weeks denim shirts have become one of my staples, they so easily go with EVERYTHING. Do yourself a favor grab one.

Also big hugs to the lady in Aaron’s Brothers at the Marina Marketplace who said I looked fabulous, she made a brown girl smile. =)

Hope you all enjoy Hunger Games, come back and tell me what you think!
